October 21: What can invertebrates tell us about Alzheimer’s Disease?
Nicholas Kron holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science and Biology and a PhD in Computational Neuroscience both from the University of Miami. He has taught courses in and/or lectured for Reef Coral Ecology, Invertebrate Zoology, and Biological Computation. Currently, he is working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Rosenstiel School at UM, investigating the potential for Aplysia californica (a species of sea slug) as a model for Alzheimer’s Disease and the role of an Aplysia virus in neural aging. Nick’s lecture will discuss Alzheimer’s Disease, past breakthroughs on neural aging using invertebrates, and his current research.
